    World's Top Affordable Hotels

The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, FL. (Mark Wieland)The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, FL. (Mark Wieland)

Let’s face it: all too often, “affordable accommodations” means your basic cookie-cutter chain-hotel room or a property that’s seen better days. But—surprise!—it can also mean an award-winning hotel at a reasonable price. And who doesn’t want that?

That’s why, when we asked the readers of Travel + Leisure to pick their favorite properties in our annual World’s Best Survey, we noted which spots wouldn’t break the bank. The result is a list of great-value inns, hotels, and resorts that offer appealing ambiance, top-notch service, and a compelling setting. And many offer nightly rates lower than the cost of an iPhone (with no two-year commitment!).

These options span the globe, from the California Wine Country to Tanzania. So whether your travel plans take you around the world or just across state lines, make your hotel stay a luxurious one—without paying an arm and a leg.

Totally useless information for all of us in the Motel 6 crowd.

Especially those old enough to remember when the 6 in Motel 6 actually meant the nightly rate!

They didn't think you could read, but you showed them and learned.

Then go stay at the Motel 6. Don't fault the people who work hard all year and want to spend their money on something nice when they go on vacation. I can certainly see the "green-eyed monster" in these posts.

who says you have to be rich?? Jesus... you'd think they were asking $5000 a night. Obviously, it's been awhile since you left the confines of your home... Even a subpar hotel is going to charge over $100 a night. A couple of hotels on this list are just $60-80 more per night. Get a grip.
    • Seth  •  Appleton, Wisconsin  •  3 months ago
Man, I thought 80 dollars per night was outrageous...
    • Leah  •  Reston, Virginia  •  3 months ago

Not at all, try and find a hotel in LA, NYC, Philly, Boston, Chicago, or any other major city for cheaper and I guarantee you wouldn't want to stay there.
    • soop  •  Fort Lauderdale, Florida  •  3 months ago
affordable to who...? the rich? sure as hell not to me it isn't.
    • Big Urn  •  Tipp City, Ohio  •  3 months ago
my idea of overpriced is anything over 110 bucks.....my ideal of affordable is 50. Someone is dilusional that the average reader on Yahoo can afford a week vacation to ....say floriday at 229....that's 1200 dollars just for the room, not including food or travel.....Phfffff.

After working for 41 years I have stayed in every type of hotel imaginable. And the one thing you used to want was a hotel than was better than home. That was attainable. Today, I haven't found one that is as good as where I live ... with the TV I have and the bed I have or the food. I am not rich. But I have learned that I have no clue what "luxury" means in a hotel. It is hype. We are all victims paying exorbitant prices. Even when my company paid these outrageous prices I thought it was nuts. So I don't rent them any more. I stay in the greatest luxury place in the world every night. My home. I am retired. I'm happy and I have my money.

I have to agree that 299-499 per night is crazy - the person writing this article is nuts or way overpaid. That is whats wrong with this country the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Try living on 8-15an hour

i was getting all dreamy eyed!! I love affordable!! Close to 300.00 to 500.00 dollars a night is not what I call affordable. I went to the Dominican republic last year, it was 175.00 a day and that included all drinks, food and butler service. I befriended a couple of local people who took me out and about during the day time, to see places only the locals go, it was wild and wonderful, and luxurious and indulgent...There are better places, off the beaten track, near home and abroad, that don't leave a dent in your pocketbook. I find if I do my research, I can take twice the vacation for the price of one...

Donna Heiderstadt should be an aide to Mitt Romney. She's as detached from the national reality as he is. $499 a night? Really? Donna dear, you belong in Congress!
