Neither its humble facade, nor its unassuming location in the midst of jostling Hollywood betray this veiled haven of serenity and fine Japanese cuisine to the unsuspecting eye. Tucked away in a small plaza on the corner of Highland and Franklin, Shintaro is in fact centrally located in the heart of Hollywood and is a very convenient meal stop for visitors exploring the Hollywood and Highland Center, taking in local sights or going to one of the daily summer concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. Right at first sight, the restaurant wins you over with unexpected elegance and classical Japanese simplicity. The mouthwatering concoctions, going far beyond the mandatory sushi roster, and genteel service complete the Shintaro experience. Ample free parking is yet another plus. - Kate Sobol
