Campo has a long history. Its founder, Guillaume Campo, was a barber in the 1880s who enjoyed art so much that he started exhibiting some of his favorite paintings in his little shop. A few patrons showed some interest, and the rest, as they say, is history. His idea was such a success that he followed it up with several art shops in the city. Campo is still around today, organizing auctions and hosting permanent exhibitions. A few years back, the "100 jaar Campo" (100 years Campo) exhibition was held and it was acclaimed internationally. Admission is free. One can also purchase Flemish antiques.
