EBELTOFT is the most popular destination, easily reached by regular bus from Århus, or by frequent ferry services from Odden in Zealand. A thriving market centre in medieval times, it was sacked by the invading Swedes in 1659 and has only emerged from economic decline thanks to tourism: try to arrive in early summer, before the cobbled streets are overrun by (mostly German) tourists shopping for souvenirs.
