At the mouth of the Clyde River and the end of the highway from Canberra, BATEMANS BAY is a favourite escape for the landlocked residents of the capital, just 152km away. It's not the most exciting place on the coast, but it's a fair-sized resort with plenty to do. The town itself is focused around Clyde and Orient streets, which run into one another. Beach Road runs alongside the river to the pleasant marina, then southeast past a string of good beaches – the further you go, the nicer they get.
