The Chiesa di San Giovanni in Tuba is located near the city gates, in the Duino-Aurisina district. It is easy to reach by car or bus. It is located near the start of the Timavo river, famous for its long and mysterious underground path. Inside the Church you can see the remains of Paleochristian basilica, and the mosaic floor, with octagonal pieces, resembles that of Aquileia, a town just outside Trieste which is famous for its Roman remains dating back to before the 5th Century. The site's sacredness is indicated by the presence of various votive epigraphs to Saturn, Hercules, and Spes Augusta, as well as by the church's dedication to Saint John the Baptist. There is a small archeological site next to the Church which is called the Antiquarium.
