It was in 1919 that American President Woodrow Wilson chose Geneva as the headquarters of the League of Nations, which was the predecessor of the United Nations Organization (founded in 1946). In 1936, the organization moved from the Palais Wilson to the grand Palais des Nations and its beautiful gardens overlooking Lake Geneva. Peace, security, human rights, disarmament, humanitarian aid and economic and social development are the main issues the United Nations Organization is faced with daily. The center has one of the most important international conference centers in the world and holds over 7000 sessions per year.
