The original church, now a museum, houses the church's collection of antiques and relics. It was built during the reign of King Narai to serve the Portuguese living in the area. During the reign of King Rama I (1782-1809), a civil war broke out in Cambodia and 500 Cambodians sought refuge in the area. Today, the descendants of Portuguese and Cambodian settlers live in the vicinity of Church of the Immaculate Conception. The present church facing the Chao Phraya river was built in 1837.
