Built on 4.5 hectacres of land, the mosque can accommodate up to 5000 worshippers at a time. It took a painstaking four years to complete and was finally ready for use in 1980. A photographer's dream, the mosque grounds provide a potential award-winning photo setting, especially at night when the floodlights are lit. Due to its location in one of the busiest thoroughfares of the city, entry into the mosque can be done via jalan Air Hitam but take care to obtain permission from mosque officials before entering. The golden onion-shaped domes were especially designed for the mosque by an architect from the Philippines.
