One of the most significant religious landmarks in Egypt, this mosque was built in 1154 CE and entry is restricted to Muslims only, though non-Muslims can view it from the outside. Dedicated to the grandson of Prophet Mohamed, whose head rests in its mausoleum, the shrine is done up in gold and features Eastern artwork. The building has been inspired by Gothic Revival architecture and is one of the most beautiful sights of the city.
