Kamenoi Besso is a deluxe cottage complex located in the hot spring resort of Yufuin in central Oita Prefecture. Yufuin Onsen is an old medicinal hot spring that sits at the base of Mount Yufu. The area is famous for its efforts to preserve the past--not only historic buildings but also old traditions and lifestyles. Kamenoi Besso is a picturesque collection of luxury cottages that come in both Japanese and western-style. The Japanese-style cottages have an eight tatami mat main room, a six mat sitting room, sliding shoji screens, Western-style toilet and full bath. Futon are tucked away in the closets. The western-style cottages have a sitting room, a large bedroom, twin beds, TV, refrigerator, western toilet, and full bath. Guests dine in the fine Kamenoi Besso restaurant. Kamenoi Besso has separate men's and women's bathing facilities. Guests can choose from a variety of indoor baths, including tubs made of rock as well as cypress. Outside are two landscaped pools that feature small waterfalls. The water is classified as alkaline simple thermal and is used to treat arthritis, infertility, post-operative rehabilitation, and the general relief of stress and nervousness. When imbibed it treats indigestion, heartburn, and constipation.
