Surrounded by mountains and close to the sea (Amalfitan Coast is only 3 km away), Cava dei Tirreni is in the middle of a green and big valley.

The Hostel is located in an ancient convent of the XVI century: Saint Mary of the Shelter. Every last week-end of June there is a Medieval tournament. There are a lot of hiking possibilities on the Lattari mountains through breathtaking views.

Please note, if you are not a Member of Hostelling International there is an extra charge of 3 per person per night. Once you have stayed 6 nights at a HI Hostel you become a HI member, and no extra charges apply for future stays.

The history of the city is related to the Benedectine Abbey founded in the 11th Century. In the Renaissance the city became very rich and powerful thanks to its trade, the ability of the artisans and the weaving mill. Cava dei Tirreni -also called 'The green door of the Amalfi Coast'- preserves many historic tracks like the picturesque Borgo Scacciaventi, built to protect the city from the northwind.
