Goats in a tree ... 'nuff said: Flickr photo of the day

What? You’ve never seen goats in a tree?  They do it all the time in southwestern Morocco; been doing it for centuries. Now, thanks to the miracle of the Internet, we can all see “goats grazing in trees.”

The southern part of Morocco is very arid and little grows there, but thanks to the hardy Argan tree, goats and goat herders make a pretty good go of it. Argan trees (if not totally denuded by tree climbing goats) can live as long as 150-200 years and they produce fruit from which Argan oil is made. But the trees are thorny and harvesting it is sometimes left to goats. The goats “pass” the seeds, which local people grind and press for Argan oil. Some people put it on bread; others rub it in their hair. Oil “processed” by goats: $15.00 for 32 ounces. Oil processed by other means: $75.00 for two ounces.
