Labor Day weekend gets festive in Beantown, as Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park becomes the site for (ähts): The Boston Arts Festival. This was a pretty modest affair when it began 10 years ago. But today, the annual festival offers a varied sampling of visual and performing arts, including a specially constructed artists’ village.

This year, look for performers Dwight and Nicole (praised by no less than Adam Levine) to play the waterfront on Saturday before they take the stage at Fenway Park on Sunday. R&B and soul singer-songwriter Jesse Dee, a local, is also in the lineup, as is the Canadian electronic hip-hop act Tribe Called Red.

The fun happens on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, from noon till 8. On Saturday night at 9, the skies will light up with fireworks, courtesy of Boston Harbor Cruises. The 412-room Marriott Long Wharf Hotel offers easy access to all the events.
