They use goat and cow hide mixed with fish skin (sea bass, shark, mahi mahi, etc). They have a beautiful Art gallery located at Carnaval corner with Libertad, in the Old Mazatlan, just 1/4 of a block from the Angela Peralta theatre.

It was wonderful and the people there were so nice.
Restaurant
Mazatlan
Notes
There were no lounge chairs right in front but the cafe has chairs, tables and umbrellas right on the beach to eat and drink. The beach was so large, empty of tourists and beautiful.

That is the name of the restaurant. Many people get confused and think that it is the place at the entrance of the Golden zone and it is not. You go by the Golden zone, and by the El Cid resort. It is between Fiesta Inn and Caravelle Hotels. Next to another restaurant called the Chili peppers. Ask for Tony, he is a great guy! The beach there is excellent. I go there with my family. I suggest you do a little sightseeing first and then go to Tonys and stay a while so you can go in the water and then back to the ship. If you have aditional questions please ask.

The lighthouse is not too far away from the cruiseship dock. Sometimes when the road is ok, you can drive up in a pick up or jeep, but normally the road is not ok for cars. You can park the car below on the street. You do have to hike up. First it is a zig zag path then a regular path and at the end you have steps. I have been up many times and normally it takes me around 30 to 45 minutes, deppending on how many times I stop to catch my breath! The view is incredible! You are up there and everything is down below.
You can go all the way up to the lighthouse at no charge. Sometimes the watcher allows you all the way to the top, but it deppends who is there at the time. Just give him a little tip at the end.

I recommend that you go in the Angela Peralta theatre (the cost is $12pesos, around $1.20us) See the pictures upstairs of how it was in ruins and then go inside the theatre.

Update on the name of the restaurant in the jungle; it is Chico's Paradise, and it literally is paradise! Watch out for the coco-loco's. Tropical punch with a punch! Served in a coconut that has been decorated with fruit and chili peppers to look like a face. The sound of the running stream, mixed in with the music from the mariachis was so romantic.

We will be going again in November. I can hardly wait!

I loved your trip plan, so copied some of your activities for our family and friends cruise on Golden Princess in Nov 2007. We have been to PV before on a Holland America cruise, and arranged for our own city and jungle tour at the docks. I think we saved a little money over the ships excursions, but did have to bargain hard to do it. Booking our own allowed some freedoms probably not available with the ships tours, namely purchasing beer to drink in the van on our tour! The highlight of that trip was a restaurant out in the middle of the jungle alongside a beautiful river with giant boulders suitable for sunning and diving off of. The restaurant was an open air palapa, and had good food but the location was the best part. Wish I could remember the name, but it was south of town, about an hours drive down the main highway. Past the tequila factory (skip that; boring and not authentic!) near the area where the movie "Predator" was filmed. I can hardly wait to go back!

This sounds like the trip I'd like to do next Feb! I'll be looking for updates when you get back!
