I was in Fussen in November and went to both castles, it was Fabulous...we stayed at the Hotel Rubezahl and would highly recommend it..It is a spa hotel and after walking and touring the castles you will need it...I didn't realize how beautiful Germany is and I bet it is gorgous in the fall.
