Talk about this trip (1)
We had a wonderful 10 day trip in Heidelberg. We stayed with my dad across the bridge. We visited the Castle, I highly recommend the guided tour or you do not get to see alot of the castle. We took the kids up to the fairy tale paradise at the top of the tram from the castle. The kids loved it. At the base of the tram to the castle is a great greek restaruant. We drove down to Neuschwanstein Castle. What a long drive as there is construction on the A5, A6, A7 and A8. We got there around noon and the first English speaking tour wasn't until 4 pm. As it is very close to the Swiss alps it was way cooler than Heidelberg so we had to buy sweatshirts. The tour is great but too quick. We chose to take the carriage ride down the mountain because it is way cheaper than taking the ride up the mountain. Plan for a 45 minute walk up.
We also took the kids to Legoland Germany. The admission was alot, but the kids had a blast. Leave way early so you can ride rides all day. This trip was also quite a long road trip from Heidelberg.
We took the kids to the Essen Restarunt or Essen House, cannot remember. We ate there back in 2003. My son wanted to try escargot and I loved the salmon with horseraddish back in 2003 and this trip.
We lucked out and got to enjoy a May fest this year as we were there May 1 - 5. Lots of great wine and beer and food.
I cannot end this without saying how much we love the Schnitzel House. Get directions and go there for dinner. We did twice in 2003 and 3 times in 2007. They have over 100 different schintzels. I love the Roma and my kids love the calzone. It is right between the Alte Brucke bridge and the next bride down. It is right where all of the tour buses drop off and pick up if you are going to the Hauptstrase.
