Naper Settlement is 2 blks. w. of Washington St. at jct. Aurora Ave. and Webster St. Visitors can relive the pioneer and Victorian eras in this re-created 19th-century village. Set on parklike grounds are a blacksmith shop, chapel, print shop, schoolhouse, log house, fort, meeting house and other buildings interpreted by costumed villagers. Highlights include the 1883 Martin Mitchell Mansion, a grand Victorian original to the grounds; two galleries; and a hands-on activity center called the History Connection. Special events are held throughout the year.
