There is concrete everywhere here so be prepared for 115 degree temperatures here in the summer. The tour of the inside of the dam takes about an hour and you get to see the giant tubes filled with river water and the hydroelectric generators. There is also a large gift shop. The easiest way to park is to go into the parking garage on the California side. 30 mile south of Las Vegas on US 93
There are two main parts to this monument. The first which is down SR117 includes the La Ventana Arch, Sandstone Bluff Overlook and Narrows Picnic Area. After seeing these you must double back on SR 117. The other route down SR 53 includes the Bandera Crater Ice Cave, Big Tubes area and the El Calderon Area. If you continue down this highway you will get to El Morro and then can continue to the Zuni Pueblo or turn north and head back to I-10 to continue your journey. Petrified Forest National Park in northeastern Arizona features one of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood. Also included in the Park's 93,533 acres are the multi-hued badlands of the Painted Desert, archeological sites and displays of 225 million-year-old fossils.
Entrance Fee: $10 per private vehicle and $5 for walk-ins and bicyclists
Petrified Forest National Park is open year round except Christmas Day. Park hours are from 7:30 AM to 5 PM, with longer hours during the summer. Hours may change without notice, so call before arriving.
This native American village sits up on top of a 367 foot high mesa. You arrive at the cultural center and then you are taken to the top in a bus and given a walking tour. Pottery and indian bread are on sale up top. Off I-40 exit 102.
