Took this trip, but just now getting around to commenting. It was a business trip so I spent most of the weekdays in the office. Went a couple of days early and did London in two days. London is great!! Hotel (which I don't recall}, was not all that great. I suggest that one of the firsts things you do in London is take one of the double decker bus tours. This will make sure you get a good overview of the city. Later, you can take the tube back to sites you want to spend more time at. Finally had to leave London and zip into Aberdeen. The Holiday Inn was just fine by American standard. Great little bakery across the street. Easy town to walk around in. Once the weekend came, we took the train from Aberdeen to Edinburgh. The people in Aberdeen were great and very helpful. Train was fun and we got to see the countryside. Got off at a little town called Stonehaven. Took a cab ride to a castle ruin on the coast. Loved it! Was one of the highlights of the trip. Took lots of pictures. Ended up walking back down to the town. If you don't mind walking a bit and you can, go for it. Stopped for some fish-n-chips in town then back to the train station. Edinburgh was another cool town. A lot bigger and busier than Aberdeen. Took the castle tour. I wish I had taken a tour "under" the streets, but didn't get it in. We took the train once more and got off at Loukers (or some name like that). At this station you can get a cab to the St. Andrews golf course. We did this on a Sunday and as it turns out, the old course is closed for play on Sundays, BUT, you can walk the course!! We ended up walking around the 18th to around 16th and took pictures on the bridge. Bought some ball markers :) Other castle ruins and whiskey tours are a short bus ride from Aberdeen. In summary, this was a great trip and would go back to Aberdeen any day.
