i went to amsterdam in august 2007 the cheapest places to stay are camp grounds so take a tent with hotels run you around 150 to 200 canadian a night if your a smoker you will the coffee shops they good smoke there lots of sight seeing to do take a camera its a blast there
Spent 4 days in Amsterdam in early September and it was fabulous! Especially nice was the Hotel Toren Classic, a 5 minute walk to Dam Square. The people are wonderful and the coffeeshops were fantastic. A great and beautiful city to walk, shop and just enjoy the surroundings. The Red Light District is a must-see; the canal boats are fun and the architecture is stunning. We'll be going back next year for a week to see and do more. Took the train to Paris for another 4 days. We'd definitely fly between the 2 cities next time around. Stayed at the Hotel Louvre which was centrally located to all the sites. Again, the city was awesome and the architecture was beautiful. The downside was that Paris was hosting the 2007 World Rugby Cup so there were millions of extra people and the streets, cafes, clubs were packed. Back to Amsterdam for one night before flying home and stayed at the Dam Hotel. Wouldn't recommend it but would probably be okay if you don't get room 204 or 205. The hotel reception is also an exchange and they really do have the best exchange rates in Amsterdam.
Can't wait to go back to Amsterdam. Are already planning a trip back.
