We stayed at the Hermitage Motel, there is a hotel also available for individuals with a bigger budget. We spent one day hiking the paths of Mount Cook and viewing glaciers.
We took the TranzAlpine Express halfway to Aruthur's Pass! At the Pass we did two hikes, The Devil's Punch Bowl and The Bridal Path. The Devil's Punch Bowl is hard but beautiful!
After the two hikes you can having a late lunch in town and then keep warm in the local museum until the train comes back!
We flew out of Christchurch on June 6th into Auckland. Again rented a car from GO rentals in Auckland and drove 3 hours to Waitiomo Caves.
At the caves we did the Black Water Rafting Adventure. A definite must do for anyone visiting the caves!!! They offer two levels, we did the 3 hour Black Labyrinth Tour and it was AWESOME!
We drove from the caves to Tongariro National Park and stayed at Bayview Chateau Tongariro! A great hotel that is located at the base of the mountains!
The room was great and the bathroom beautiful with heated floors and towelracks. We ate at the hotel resturants both nights and enjoyed our meals!
Run by a husband and wife team, this is a wonderful way to explore the vineyards of Hawke's Bay! You are given a bike, a packed lunch, a map, a cellphone and some great recommendations.
