I grew up about 60 miles east of Gatlinburg and visited quite often. Now I reside in West TN and I sure miss the "mountains". The Pacific Northwest is beautiful. I'm sorry you were so disappointed in our part of the country. As far as "hillbilly central" I thank you for the compliment. We are unprentitious and treat everyone with respect no matter where they "hail" from. YALL COME BACK NOW, Y'HEAR
I can't say what Gatlinburg is like in 2006 but when I was there in the 1940s with my aunt and uncle, we enjoyed the rustic scenery and the awesome mountains! We were driving from our home town of New Orleans and I will never forget what I saw and felt in Gatlinburg. Retired in Texas
We don't just "call" them mountains, sweetheart. That's what they are. Your elitist attitude simply furthers the stereotype that people from your region think they are better than everyone else.
