Gatlingburg, or as I call it Kissimmee in the Hills.

We don't just "call" them mountains, sweetheart. That's what they are. Your elitist attitude simply furthers the stereotype that people from your region think they are better than everyone else.

I can't say what Gatlinburg is like in 2006 but when I was there in the 1940s with my aunt and uncle, we enjoyed the rustic scenery and the awesome mountains! We were driving from our home town of New Orleans and I will never forget what I saw and felt in Gatlinburg.

I grew up about 60 miles east of Gatlinburg and visited quite
often. Now I reside in West TN and I sure miss the "mountains". The Pacific Northwest is beautiful. I'm sorry you were so disappointed in our part of the country. As far as "hillbilly central" I thank you for the compliment.
We are unprentitious and treat everyone with respect no matter where they "hail" from.
YALL COME BACK NOW, Y'HEAR

You set yourself up for disappointment by not researching your 'honeymoon' spot. A little checking on your part would indicate a very 'touristy' fun town but no mountains compared to the monsters of the Cascades or Tetons. The highest peak in all the eastern US is Mt Mitchell in NC and it is under 7000'. Your tone is very elitist and many of us locals don't care if you ever come back. Educate yourself before your next trip. It will be less disappointing. Here's another tip: Always run a full cycle (fill water and circulate jets, then empty) before you enter a hot tub. You know the maids don't do it and there will be 'leftovers' from the people before you. Yeah it is a waste of water but it is what southerners call 'common sense'.

The southern folks are a little sensitive. Lighten up.

I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy your trip to our "hillbilly" state. Like some others said, you need to always do research on where ever it is you're visiting. You don't need to be putting down on these beautiful, breath taking mountains.
We sure don't appreciate your tone and put downs on our home.
Look for the good in the time you had here. You made good memories on your "honeymoon" didn't you????????????
Like others said, us locals don't care if you ever come back.

I tell you what, not very impressed by the "mountains" huh, well I've been to both the grand tetons and the smokeys and I think the Smokys have em beat. Sorry that you didn't have a good time, you can rush back to your fruit cups, cobb salads and snooty jokes all the quicker, and be sure to tell all your friends the REAL AMERICANS from the south say "Hey ya'll".

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Dollywood are all great places to visit. If you can't have fun here, you just can't have any fun anywhere. The people are friendly, the food is great, reasonably priced and just a great place for a family vacation spot for about 4-5 days!! Yes, it is a little different from NYC life, but it all depends on what you are used to and what you are looking for.

If you want to learn a little about Tennessee history and Tennessee music, be sure to take in some of the great shows, whether you are in Pigeon Forge/Dollywood (only 15 minutes from Gatlinburg) or in Gatlinburg. Many people do select Gatlinburg as a quiet romantic getaway for either a honeymoon or to celebrate an anniversary one can stroll along the street, checking out the restaurants and shops. . . be sure to watch the candy being made in the candy shops and send something back to your loved ones. I would go again and again!!
