We are spending ten nights in Italy over the Christmas and New Year's break. Flying into Pisa on the 23rd of December. We'll spend a couple of hours in Pisa (visiting the Leaning Tower and Duomo) then take the train to Florence where we'll stay for three nights (including Christmas). Then spend two nights in Siena, one night in Civita di Bagnoregio, one night in Orvieto, and finally three nights in Rome, where we fly out of on 2nd January.

Just wondering... have you ever been to Pisa? and if so, what do you like about it? Perhaps Christmas is not an important time for you, but I would want to spend it somewhere else. After the piazza I haven't found anything else to see in Pisa, have you?

Hi Worldmartha - We are only visiting Pisa for a couple of hours on the day we fly into Italy. From everything I've read, Pisa doesn't seem to have much more to offer than the Field of Miracles, which includes the Leaning Tower and the Duomo. We'll just fly in, take the bus to the Field of Miracles, look at the sites for an hour or two, then take the train to Florence, where we'll stay for three nights (spending Christmas there). Its kind of hard to tell at first glance of my Yahoo trip, but we are not actually in Pisa over Christmas. Just a couple of hours there since it is the city we fly into.

We spent a night in Orvieto this past March. Beautiful town. We drove up from Roma and stayed at the Hotel Duomo. I recommend walking around the town, getting away from the commercial center -- when you hit the edge of town you'll get an impressive view.
