i would discourage you from going to Howick. its a pretty boring place.

You should really also see beaches like Piha, Karekare, Murawai, all on the west coast.

Also, check out all the volcano's like Rangitoto island, mt eden, etc. Also cornwall park and One tree Hill (has no tree anymore)

and unless your really hard up for somewhere to eat I recommend none of those places. there is plenty of nice food aound ponsonby area, and also mt eden, kingsland area too.
