Mario and I rented a vehicle while we were there and it was sooooooo worth it. You are able to take half a day and drive up the coast and stop to eat, shop, sit out on the beach or walk on the boardwalk. You definitely need a map however and a compass/GPS to make sure you are in the right direction. We started in downtown Miami to The port of miami to South Beach to Miami Beach ( we stopped in the Art Deco District and went to the beach in front of the boutique hotels) all the way up to Ft Lauderdale. We were really ambitious and thought we might even drive to Orlando. Being from Dallas, TX where every place takes you at least 30 minutes to get there it was not a problem to drive out and spend the rest of the day at Disney World. I recommend stopping at Hollywood Boulevard for shopping and a bit to eat or dessert. If you are an animal lover like I am or your pet's wardrobe is just as big stopped by the three pet shops they have. Very nice, unique items for your pooch.
