Nice but busy trip for a one week vacation. A little bit for everyone including Vegas, Grand Canyon and many national parks, and some Route 66 nostalgia. My recommendations include setting up your Canyon visit early to try to stay close to the park and to set up a mule ride. Also enter the Canyon from the east end at Desert View. My favorite places to stay were the Canyon Motel in Williams and the Wigwam Hotel in Holbrook.

Notes
This native American village sits up on top of a 367 foot high mesa. You arrive at the cultural center and then you are taken to the top in a bus and given a walking tour. Pottery and indian bread are on sale up top. Off I-40 exit 102.

Notes
There are two main parts to this monument. The first which is down SR117 includes the La Ventana Arch, Sandstone Bluff Overlook and Narrows Picnic Area. After seeing these you must double back on SR 117. The other route down SR 53 includes the Bandera Crater Ice Cave, Big Tubes area and the El Calderon Area. If you continue down this highway you will get to El Morro and then can continue to the Zuni Pueblo or turn north and head back to I-10 to continue your journey. My favorites were hiking up to the Arch and climbing up the Sandstone Bluff

There is concrete everywhere here so be prepared for 115 degree temperatures here in the summer. The tour of the inside of the dam takes about an hour and you get to see the giant tubes filled with river water and the hydroelectric generators. There is also a large gift shop. The easiest way to park is to go into the parking garage on the California side. 30 mile south of Las Vegas on US 93.

A great restaurant here is the Monsoon. After so much fast food and Route 66 type food, Chinese was a nice change of pace. Next door is a Coldstone. Also in close range is the haunted Monte Vista Hotel which was booked when we checked. The other problem with staying in Flagstaff except on the interstate is the horrible honking railroad noise all night.

One more note. Bring a picnic lunch to the Canyon. There are several places to eat and it beats fighting the crowds and you can enjoy a great view with lunch. There are many Native American vendors on Arizona highway 64. The best prices are the furthest from the Canyon. The one we liked the best had a large California flag on top of it.

This looks like a great trip, I've been to many of these places during various jaunts through the area. If I were to take this trip, I would skip Vegas, and make the Grand Canyon it's very own excursion.
