Reykjavik is the city I wanted to visit ever since 1966 but have'nt been able to either because of airlines or the time stress. Now that I am thru with the strssful chores of life,I sure intend to make my dreams come true in 2007 and live my fantasy after 40 years.I shall appreciate any efforts from any person who can offer me assistance in this.
I have been to Iceland on 3 different occasions. It is a short 51/2 hour trip from East Coast. It is however, expensive to visit. The scenery is unique and you must include at least half a day to swim at the Blue Lagoon. Take a guided tour of the area, don't just rent a car and drive and hope to see everything. A good time to go is between May and early Nov. Icelandic horseback riding is another acitivity. Best buys are on Icelandic woolens and hand crafts.
I was in Iceland a few years ago and cannot wait to go back. It is truly the most spectacular place I have ever seen. I agree that you should go to the Blue Lagoon. Also, if you have the time and money, go further afield. In the north you will find Akureyri--a charming city--and the beautiful Lake Mývatn. Also be sure to check out the boiling mud pits and Dimmuborgir--amazing lava formations.
If you get a chance, take at least a short ride on an Icelandic horse. How often can you say you have ridden on a horse descended from those the viking rode?
