I lived in Charlotte for 15 years and if you wanna have a good time....these are the places to go. Also head downtown and checkout Southend along with the arena district.

For a night on the town, don't miss Buckhead's Saloon, Cans, and Ri-Ra's, and Blue...all uptown.
There are some GREAT local hangouts for great food: Price's Chicken Coop in Southend, Merts Heart and Soul in uptown, Fuel Pizza all over the place, and Pike's in Southend.
