Lyon is France's second largest city and sadly incredibly overlooked! It has fabulous restaurants, brilliant museums, and excellent shopping but still preserves the french culture perfectly. I prefer Lyon to Paris because to me it is a more welcoming city and it is so convenient to get to Provence, and Nice.
Basilique do Fouriere, Musee de la Civilation Gallo-Romaine, and Vieux Lyon are all within the same area. Make sure to check to see when these are closed. Generally Mondays are when the Museums are closed in France but sometimes it is Tuesdays. Save Parc de la Tete d'Or for a Sunday if you are in Lyon because so many other things are closed in France and it is a great way to see the french people just relaxing and spending quality time with their families! Musee des Beaux-Arts is one of the best Fine arts museums in the world and is very managable in about 3-4 hours.
