The courts in Lake Havasu are corrupt and the police, city attorney and especially the local Magistrate do not care if your are innocent and it does not matter if you have rock solid proof of your innocence. If they can find an excuse to cite or arrest you they will and you will NOT have chance in court. I have spoken to many local attorney's who have told me that the fines in Lake Havasu are 2-5 times higher than in the other local city's. Come to Havasu on Vacation and leave on Probation. It is a modern day revenue making speed trap and the magistrate is a modern Judge Roy Bean!
You forgot to mention just how PATHETIC the driving is around here. We moved here to be with our two youngest Grandchildern, and if it wasn't for family ..I'd move in a instant ..this is the GERMANY of the US when it comes to ANY and ALL officating here ..
Anyone who think Havasu is a great place may also want to look into similiar places like Iran or North Korea especially if you think Germany 1939 would have been a good place to visit because the trains ran on time. Check into the Judical complaints about the local Judge-he is the only judge to be disiplined this year. The action was taken because they found him not capable of being fair in a trial, he was biased against the defense.
We are an older couple (in our fifties) who visited Lake Havasu a few weeks ago. We were ticketed for making an excessive wake on a rented wave runner. We were just learning how to ride the thing and were barely moving....no way were we being dangerous or destructive or making an excessive wake. We were visiting mid-week and the lake was far from crowded. We were not under the influence and we were not disrespectful and...... we are not party people on Spring Break. We are a family who made the mistake of vacationing in Lake Havasu.
The fine was $185 and the letter says that we have to appear in person to even request a hearing and then return again for our day in court. Thanks to the information we have learned from reading the blogs and news reports....we now know that the Judge has boasted about bringing in the most money and has never sided with a tourist....so we know that going back to have our day in court would be a waste of time and put us at even more risk for getting another ticket...(since Lake Havasu has a bad reputation for excessive ticketing of cars also.)
We wished we would have read up on Lake Havasu before we went. It is experiences like we had....(and are more than willing to share with others).....that are having an impact on tourism at Lake Havasu.
While we were there, we noticed that many of the hotels were advertising low rates (some with big flashing signs) and the Little English Village was practically empty. At first we thought it was closed. We wondered why there were so few people around....apparently we are among the last to learn about the hazards of visiting Lake Havasu. We wont be returning and we are sharing our story so others wont be sitting ducks with a big dollar sign target on their backs.
The Lake Havasu Judicial system has a reputation for being predatory and unfair for good reason....and it will cost them in the long run.
