If you're making this venture to West Texas, you also will want to include a stop at the Commemorative Air Force Museum at Midland International Airport between Midland and Odessa. Formerly the Confederate Air Force Museum in Harlingen, Texas, this is a great monument dedicated to American flyboys. Originally celebrating U.S. airmen who flew and fought during World War II, the museum has been expanded to include airmen from all wars, including WW I, Vietnam, Korean, and the Iraq conflicts. There's also a special section dedicated to the Rosey the Riveters (my mother and one of my aunts among them) who aided in the war effort during WW II! It's definitely well worth the stop!
