Fri Jun 30 12:00am - Tue Jul 4 12:00am
Notes
We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Finisterra. The room itself can be cleaner and the water was brown due to some rusty pipes (got better after we let the water run for a few minutes). But the pool area is gorgeuos. There were 3 pools (2 with volleyball nets) and half dozen of hot tubs and it's open until 11pm. The hotel's private beach is accessible through the pool area and has a nice view of the pacific ocean.

The marina is just a 5-min walk down the hill from the hotel and from there you can walk, take the water taxi, take the bici taxi to just about anywhere. The hotel is situated next to "Pedregal", where the celebrity beach houses are, and the amenities offered by the hotel make you feel like you could be a celebrity too!

The food is AMAZING at Nick-San. We went there our first night at Cabo and had thought of going again before we leave (unfortunately we didn't make it back). My favorite was the homemade gyoza and my boyfriend liked the spicy hand roll. The food was delicate, light, yet full of flavors. Who knew sushi would be good with chipotle sauce?! The food is not cheap ($80USD for the two of us), but it's worth every penny! A must visit at Cabo!

Stopped by Margaritavilla for some light lunch and drinks. The strawberry margarita was very good and it was HUGE! The shrimp cocktail and ceviche were also excellent. However, the pina colada was only a 7. (of 10)

We took the glass-bottom boat to Land's End. There are lots of water taxis with glass bottoms and there is no need to reserve one. The taxi took us around Land's End but we did not get off at Lover's Beach. It is just a tiny little beach with a million people on it. It costs $10USD/person for a quick 30-min. tour.

We found the water taxis are the best way to go across the bay. It goes directly across (instead of around the marina on normal taxis) and it costly only $3-5 from the marina to Playa Medano.

The market is down the hill from Hotel Finisterra. A good one-stop souvenir shopping place but nothing you can't find elsewhere. It is located at the end of the marina so we asked the water taxi to drop us off there on the way back from Land's End.

Playa Medano is a 10-min ride on "bici taxi" and has several great restaurants along the beach. We went to the Office for dinner and it was plenty fun digging our feet into the sand. The food was good and the pina colada in pineapple cup was delicious. One of the best we've tasted in Cabo. (We made it our little conquest to try pina colada at every restaurant). Since it's very popular among tourists, there was a 45-min wait for us without a reservation.

Our hotel concierge recommended "Spin Doctor" by La Princesa Cruises. Honestly I can't tell the difference between the two, and there was the actual "La Princesa Cruise" when we were there, but our boat has about 1/3 less people, which gave us more room to move around and better view. The catamaran leaves from the marina at 12noon and it's about 3 - 3.5 hr tour, although the actualy snorkeling part is less than an hour. On the way back the crew turned up the music while we enjoyed lunch, open bar, and the wave. The crew is fun and very friendly and they have the best salsa in Cabo. I highly recommend the tour.

Although we had Alexander as one of the "to-visit" restaurants on our trip planner, we actually didn't see it as it is nestled in a row of restaurants one after another. Luckily, their "tableside flambe" drew us in. We had their "surf and turf for two" which is 1 lobster and 28oz of steak, freshly prepared at your table side. Considering the amount/quality of food, it is actually a pretty good deal ($65USD). We opted pina colada for two glasses of wine to go with the nice dinner.

The owner Alex was friendly and personally greeted each table. Many of the patrons even asked to have pictures taken with him. The restaurant is right on the marina, so it's also a great place for people watching at night.

Our post-spa/early dinner. It is just a few hotels down from Pueblo Bonita Rose on Playa Medano. The happy hour (2 for 1) runs from 7am to 7pm here and the drinks are huge. (The pina colada is only average). There seems to be more locals here and the atmosphere is more chill than The Office, which is right next door.

Talk about this trip (8)
You don't have to have mexican pesos, since many places accepts US currency. But they round the dollar up if you use US $. I did some research prior to the trip and supposedly you get the best exchange rate through ATMs so we took money using the ATMs at the airport when we got there. However I didn't check if the rate was that much better. It's more for the convenience.

The plane ticket was $400/person (from San Francisco), hotel was $120/night (double occupancy). The food was probably about $30/day person. So the total is about $800/person for 5 days, but this does not include any excursions/day trips/spa treatments. Hope this helps.

Sounds like fun. I am contemplating a Cabo trip this December with two elementary school kids. Have you noticed such families there? Is mexican currency needed?
