There are so many places to hike, walk, bike, swim, and just hang out. It is a very safe place so the kids can run around. There is a LOT of traffic both foot and vehicle in the summer so watch out!
When you are here, don't limit yourself to just Bar Harbor because there is nice stuff on the rest of the island too. It's not as concentrated as here but it's out there. You Don't have to go out if you want seafood. There are many places to buy it still alive. Of course then you'll have to kill and cook it, but it is cheaper and healthier than getting it at a resteraunt. A couple of resteraunts you should visit while you're here though are Gringos (Rodick St. Bar Harbor for the best burritos), Havana (Main St. Bar Harbor-very classy), Red Sky (Southwest Harbor-I've heard it's amazing!), The Burning Tree (Route 3 in Otter Creek) McKays (Main St. Bar Harbor-social atmosphere), Rosalie's Pizza (Cottage St. Bar Harbor for the best pizza), Miguel's (Rodick St. Bar Harbor for the best margaritas and a fun social atmosphere). It'll be hard to fit all that into the typical week but it's worth a shot!
