I don't exactly want to spend a lot of money on this trip but I would like to have a good one. I'm setting aside $1,000 for this trip, including gas, assuming that gas will only be $2.85 and not rise to $3.50 as expected. Any advice on where to stay and to eat that isn't too pricey?

Although there is a 30 minute drive to Mt Rushmore, it is worth it! The hotel is great and Best Western Ramakota, espically the pools. There was a indoor water park that really appealed to the small kids, so this left the standard pool and hot tub available for adults.
