i want to go to ruiodoso n.m. in aug. and would like to know the best route..and how many miles is it from amarillo..is there any interesting sites along the road.....thanks maxine
Riudoso is about five hours from Amarillo by cutting through the small towns in Texas and New Mexico (Amarillo-Hereford-Colvis-Portales-Roswell-Ruidoso). You can also go through Lubbock and make it a six hour trip (Lubbock-Littlefield-Clovis...). In Roswell there is an Alien Museum b/c that's the location of Area 51, the conspiracy theory about an alien landing. It's pretty hilarious. Clovis has an Air Force base and zoo. Riudoso is really pretty in the summer. There is a restaurant just this side of Riudoso called Tinney's. My parents always go there.
Lincoln National Park is closed due to extreme fire hazzard. So if you are planning to do anything like fishing, hiking, etc. this may not be the time to go. You should check it out before you go. It is a very beautiful place to go.
i grew up in Amarillo! it is great! my grandparents took us on a roadtrip around new mexico several years ago what we did was... Roswell, Alamagorda (sp), White Sands, then to the University of NM (can't remeber that city name) then to carlsbad, then el paso, camped and the pancho villa site and spent an afternoon in mexico, then back to Amarillo. That was in one week! It ws fun
Hope you have fun,
