Hmmmmmmmm.. good idea.. but if u want to b with ur Wife then you have to go for a Hotel. but if you want to see the Cultural Beautiful in sri Lanka. you have to travel. and i think you know the Temperature in Sri Lanka is getting so high..

I go there before, luxury hotel, natural view and beautiful beach, Galle & Matara is recommeded to go, save cost can take railway train, Colombo can see beautiful sunset, very romantic. ....

The temperature during December is not that much hot. It will ba always less than 80 degrees anywhere in the country I guess. This is one of a nice island one must travel. I like the fact that everything is so cheap comparing to US. You can even save by using public trasportation service like trains. Since the country is smaller than a state in US, spend time for fun rather than spending time for days is more than enough to visit most of the nice places in the country.
