Talk about this trip (10)
I decided to visit the birth place of my parents in March 2005. My parents had prepared me to encounter misery, poverty and violence. They have not been back since immigrating in the 70's.

My parents were wrong, completely wrong.

I stayed in the capital city but ventured out to small towns like Santa Ana and took in the beauty of its cathedral, San Miguel and its bustling city. The beaches are amazing, the night life is happening, the food is great, the women... oh those women!!!

For all you travelers, this country is a must see.

I arrived in El Salvador a little hesitant, I left the country with tears and proud to be a Salvadoran-American.

I have experienced exactly the same feelings every time a go there. On the way back, I have never met a "Tourist" that did not like the place.

My family and I went to El Salvador in July-August/2005, we went for La Fiesta Julia in Santa Ana, and Fiestas Agostinas (San Salvador), and also we had fun in the beaches, like Costa Azul(a private ranch)in Sonsonate,San Blass in La Libertad, we stayed the whole day at The Dolce Vita Restaurant, excellent service, DJ entertaining,(he sings, tell jokes etc..),the children can enjoy the pool close to you, and the food to die for, MMMMMM,two lobsters filled with shrimp and rice only $16.00 Dollars. We visited several little towns like Coatepeque, Cojutepeque,Chalchuapa, etc...Oh God!! we had so much fun going places, restaurants, night clubs, we even had our own driver the whole time. We even invited his family to some places and we were soooooo happy. My children definitely want to go again.

Hey I saw a lot of Europeans and Asians visiting.

I have never visited a night club in El Salvador and I can only partially agree with the comments that El Salvador is not what it was like in the 70's. It is a country on the rise, but while it may boast huge malls and great night clubs, it is not all fun and tourism. over 80% of the nation lives in poverty and El Salvador has some of the biggest gang violance in the world and also lays claim to huge domestic violance and child abuse. While you may feel safe traveling down the streets to go clubing, take note of the children you pass on your way - there are over 300 000 street children and over 350 000 orphaned and abandoned childern. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE El Salvador, and we NEED tourism to help the economy. So Come, Enjoy, but don't overlook the people and their every day life. When you live there and are not a "tourist" life is not all beaches and fiestas.

I love El Salvador I took my children for the summer of 2005 and 2006 and we enjoyed it very much. We stayed in Juayua, Sonsonate for two 1/2 months. We were able to visit places, but there is a lot of poverty and it brakes our heart to see a lot of children at such young age to work early in the morning and then go to school if your lucky.

I went to El Salvador in December. It is where my mother's side of the family is from. I have never been so relaxed in my life. I absolutely loved it! I cannot wait to go back. The only concern I had was when I went to the market La Libertad, since I am female I felt a little nervous. Make sure, women, that you are very very careful at all times when in El Salvador. But it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth!
