Very comfortable bed. We were on the street side. During the day, we kept the windows open while we were out touring and did not close them until right before we went to bed, so the room was nice and cool. I am a fairly light sleeper so could not keep the windows open because of the traffic noise. With the windows closed, there is not much traffic noise at all. The breakfast is ok, but we stayed for a long time here, and it got old.

Stand with the Salzburg Cathedral on your left. Head left past the church to the next square. Buy the incredibly delicious pretzels there (the fruit one is great!) and sit down to enjoy the chess game (played with large chess men).

We walked the path from Hohensalzburg Fortress to the Museum of Modern Art. There is a nice little place to stop and grab a beer along the path with a great view.

To tell the truth, I wasn't that impressed. The photo gallery was very well done. However, they had a special exhibit from one artist who obviously thought a good bit about himself and his work. I don't think a bunch of statues with no expression is good modern art. Also, I expect more exhibits in a modern art museum. However, the view of the city from outside of the museum is worth the walk from Hohensalzburg Fortress.
From nearly everywhere in Salzburg you can see the city's major landmark, its castle. The first building was erected …

Ummm, the description is wrong. This is NOT Mozart's house. However, this IS a great fortress. Take the tour which comes with a well done audioguide. The views from the top of the fortress are stunning!

This is a Sound of Music site. Take a picture of the rearing Pegasus (the Trapps danced around it in the movie). We didn't go inside. The gardens are lovely.

Visit the protestant church, admire the pear tree (which grows flat against a building wall), walk into the catholic church, and look at the bone chapel. All of these sites are recommended by Rick Steves in his Germany
Well, we are changing the trip. After looking at how long we would spend on the train, we decided to go with a more laid back approach and spend more time "sedentary". So, we are going to Vienna, Graz, and Salzburg. Part of our time in Vienna will be spent on the Danube, and we will do some hiking in the Salzburg area. If anyone has any must see hiking areas, please feel free to share.
I found an apartment in Vienna. I will start recording information in the journal and let people know how the apartment was. It is located very close to the Danube canal and very close to the center of town. The price was VERY reasonable, and it will be nice to have so much room and privacy. More later...
Ok, I am back from my trip. Keep checking in for updates on pictures, schedule, and the trip journal. I will enter a thought letting everyone know when I am done.
