Talk about this trip (10)
I recently went to Savannah, GA and I thoroughly enjoyed. My friends and I also visited Tybee Island as well. We climed all 178 steps of the lighthouse and the homes there are really nice too. We stayed at the Marriott right on River Street and we could the container ships go by since Savannah is one of the United States' top 5 shipping ports. We also did the ghost tour, I liked that too. I also walked around the historical area and visited the Juliette Gordon Low's house. If you are not familiar with her, she is the founder and creater of the Girl Scouts of America. A lot of the homes were also some movies, like the movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Which made Savannah become even more popular after the book was published and the movie came out. So, to me Savannah, GA is a place I would definitely return to, because if you are into history, this is one of the places a family should visit.

"Carey" Hilliard's is probably the name of the restaurant you mentioned in the later part of your Fort Pulaski section.

Savannah and Tybee are my favorite places in the United States. The best place to eat on Tybee is "The Crab Shack"..where the elite eat in there feet. The communities are filled with natural beauty, eccentrics, history and pure southern charm. I highly recommend just parking your car down by the riverwalk and walking the city squares and seeing the sights of "Forrest Gump" (see where forrest sits on the bench..which is I believe is Wright Square) or "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (The Mercer House which is where Jim Williams really did live).

I am interested in traveling to Georgia with my daughter in September. We were thinking of staying in Savannah or on Tybee Island. Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay with reasonable price? Thanks!

I have been to Tybee Island about four times. It is beautiful. I lived in Atlanta,Ga then-so it didnt take long to get there. If you want to save money, try getting a hotel in Savannah and drive to Tybee. I recommend the Savannah Inn Suites off of Victory Drive. Now, I live in PA and miss the access. Needless to say my family and I will plan a trip for this year(2008). I wouldnt recommend going on any Holidays: especially the fourth of July. I made that mistake once-very crowded. They have a lot of reasonable restaurants also-including Arbys.
For the single parents budget.

My husband, my son, and I want to Savannah and Tybee New Years weekend and loved it! We had planned on staying two nights in Savannah but on the 3rd day we just couldn't leave so we stayed at a hotel on Tybee Island. We loved the riverwalk and downtown Savannah...it is beautiful and amazing. Tybee Island was also great. We loved the beach and they had some nice restaurants. We went to the light house and our 3 year old son even climbed the 178 steps. Thew view was AMAZING! Very much worth the climb. We loved these places so much that we are returning in July and my brother and sister are flying into Savannah to stay the week with us! We rented a condo for the week but are getting there on the 4th and staying in an oceanview room at the Ocean Plaza so we can see the fireworks from the pier! We loved this place and I would recommend it to everyone!
