We had a two bedroom suite and really liked the fireplace! It was a gas with a 60 min timer and the ashes that look real. The kitchenette was pretty good. Note: the ice maker is off when you get to the room.

The breakfast was great for a hotel. Eggs, waffles, pancakes, busicuits, oatmeal, etc.

The beds here are those memory foam, so if you don't like them...

Rent the audio tour at the entrance to the house if it is your first trip. I was very impressed with the amount of wood cut prints in the house. the Rhino print is 500 years old... The painting on the ceiling in the library was purchased in Europe. The canvas cut into ( or-) 13 sections and applied to the ceiling here. They also added an animal or two as a nod to the farmland around. Because we didn't get there until close to 2 pm, the wine and choclate tour was full. So sign up for that as soon as you get there or find the 800 number. We still visited the winery and sampled wines. I want to take the optional 'roof top tour' next time I go...

Smith-McDowell House Museum Okay, if the Biltmore is Asheville's ultimate home, then this is the penultimate. In fact, this is Asheville's first home built in 1840. It was built by James McConnell Smith, who owned a plantation and it's likely that slaves helped build the home. Over the years, a Confederate Major, mayors and many more of Asheville's wealthiest citizens lived in the mansion. small admission fee.
