From Frankfurt it's a 75-mile straight shot to Wurzburg on A-3; just follow the blue autobahn signs to Wurzburg. Leave the freeway at the Heigingsfeld-Wurzburg ext. Follow signs south to Stuttgart/Ulm/Road 19, then continue to Rothemburg via a scenic slice of the Romantic Road.
Takes you thorugh Bavaria's medieval heartland, a route strewn with picturesque villages, farmhouses, onion-domes churches, Baroque palaces and walled cities. (RS p.126-152; F p.154)
