Avignon makes a great base camp for some of the smaller surrounding towns in Provence; the train station is right outside the town walls and walkable from almost anywhere in town, although you may find it easier to just rent a car (rental cars are also available at the train station).

I'm also planing to visit the south of France at the end of this month. I will be going to Spain for a class trip and decided to extend my trip an additional week. I will be alone and I don' speak French, will it be difficult for me to get around? I'm a bit nervous about it, but felt that this was too good an opportunity to pass up.

I am planning to go to the South of France at the end of this month. First we will fly to Marseille to visit some friends who will lend us a car to travel to the south. This guide really gives me an idea of places to visit and things to do.
