Land Of The Setting Sun

We plunge straight into a very different China by starting our journey westwards in Lanzhou. Already there is a heavy influence of the Muslim world indicating that you are on the route of the ancient Silk Road.

Trains, buses and the occasional plane take us on a journey that would have taken the merchants of old many months. The idea is to pass through the same lands, not to suffer the same hardships.

These lands offer traces of past cultures but we are also able to discover the various features of those that remain. At times we will join locals in their homes and discover a little more about their way of life.
