We arrived Saturday afternoon and decided to start with the Garden of the Gods. The sights were breathtaking and we had to take our picture at Balanced Rock. We even saw a few mule deer.

We bought a combo ticket for the train and park. It included all the rides at the park with the exception of the Sky Screamer. The train was pretty cool, we stood in the open air car on the way there and enjoyed the sights, and watched the rafters going down the Arkansas River. We stopped at the suspension bridge, although we didn't know why we did until we went to the park and saw the free movie about the history of the bridge and Royal Gorge. It is pretty amazing that the train was suspended above the river. We took the skyride (aerial tram) over and walked the bridge back. The skyride would have been nicer if we hadn't been packed in like sardines. We also enjoyed the incline railway and met some really nice people in line. this park is really nice for families.

Kevin and I were both disappointed in the cave. We did the discovery tour but there was really nothing to look at. The formations were very small and the tour was not very long at all. Definitely overpriced. I heard from several others that if you're going to do this one, do the Lantern tour which is $22 per person (we paid $18 for the discovery tour). I guess you get the excitement of what it would have been like to explore the cave.

We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring Manitou Springs, a very quaint town. Definitely worth it!

The train ride was really nice. We had tickets for Wednesday, but were able to stand by for tickets on Monday. Luckily, we were one of the last ones to get on the train at 9:30 am. The 'conductor' was very informative, told a few jokes and made the trip up a lot of fun. Once we got up there, we got a doughnut (apparently this is a must-have)and a drink before we went outside for photo opportunities. I climbed down a few rocks to get to a platform and Kevin about had a heart attack. I had my picture taken and I was happy. The views were amazing and the air thin. I escaped the headache, but Kevin was not so lucky. We both thought the money spent was worth the trip!

This was our first whitewater rafting trip and didn't know what to expect. We decided to do the BigHorn Sheep Canyon tour with class 2 and 3 rapids. although we had a blast, we both decided that if we every get to do this again, we will do the 3 and 4 rapids. We got a really great picture that looks like our raft was about to get overtaken by a rapid. The water was 62 degrees, but felt really good in the sun. Great time!

We found out about this place from some locals on the Pikes Peak Railway. I definitely recommend this place - absolutely beautiful, with fantastic lawns, gardens and a beautiful home. The tour lasts about 2 hours and then you are able to walk around the grounds and enjoy the scenery.

These Indians were pretty small to get in and around the cliff dwellings they built. This was pretty neat to see and experience - didn't take us too long to go through.

We also stopped at the Ghost Town Museum. Kids will love this- a town built and set-up like the late 1800's with lots of antiques and signs on how they were used. Also a pretty interesting film was included (about 10 minutes) and a chance to pan for gold. This place also had the most reasonably priced souveniers.

We decided to do this at the last minute because we wanted to go to Seven Falls which is in the same area we had been in all day. Admission was $12 (we had a coupon) and definitely worth it. The giraffe exhibit was the best, you could get up close and personal with the giraffes, feed and pet them. The zoo is actually in the mountains so it was really nice and breezy. Great for the kids!

We went Wednesday night and it started raining. The stairs were closed so we were able to come back within 24 hours to revisit. Be patient waiting to get into the park - it took forever for us to pay. The lights on the falls were pretty, but I thoroughly enjoyed the daytime - being able to climb the stairs and do a bit of hiking. We saw another mule deer that crossed the path right in front of us. Definitely recommend this activity!

We left about 8:45 am for the drive to Cripple Creek. We drove around Pikes Peak through woodland Park and some more gorgeous views. We stopped at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine to take a tour in a real working gold mine. It was really cool and definitely recommend it to everyone.

We then stopped at the heritage Center where we learned a bit more about the gold mining in the region. From here, we drove into Cripple Creek, which is really only a lot of casinos. If you're not going to gamble, there is really nothing here. A few shops, but nothing significant. The lady at the Heritage Center told us to go to Victor, CO, about 5 miles further and visit the Trading Company and Museum. This town was tiny, tiny. The trading company was pretty interesting - they make brooms, have their own printing press, make their own candles, etc. We didn't go into the museum. You also get to take a look at the gold mines and apparatus they use on the drive into Victor. The only place you can get gas in either place is in Cripple Creek (1 gas station).
