Option 1: Buy a PAYG Oystercard and load it with GBP 30. Use it everywhere you go.
Option 2:(if you're not sure what modes of transport you will be using):
Buy a regular (paper) zones 1-2 travelcard. If you're using the tube after 9:30 AM (as most tourists do) then three 1-day travelcards work out cheaper @ 5.60 GBP each. If you're likely to be out and about early in the morning, then a 3-day travelcard is cheaper @ 18.40 GBP.LHR is in zone 6, so the cash excess fare for travel to zone 2 will be £3.20.

Southbound bus stop on Park Lane (turn left out of the Park Lane entrance then 2 minutes' walk). The bus stop has a very good map of destinations served and these head towards Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly, Victoria etc. The corresponding northbound bus stop (on the Hyde Park side of the road) is slightly further to the south, so watch for that if you're returning to the hotel by bus.

HEX to Paddington and a taxi to GH(13.90GBP RT-HT Connected,17.00 HT EXPRESS)

From Gloucester Road station (well, from the Cromwell Road, actually) you can take the number 74 bus towards Hyde Park Corner, having a look at Harrod's en route. There you can change to a number 9 towards the Aldwych, which will go past Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. At the first stop along the Strand, you can change to a number 15 bus, which will take you past St Paul's to the Tower.
At Tower Hill, change to an RV1 to go near Borough Market and then towards the Eye. From the Eye, which is more or less just across Westminster Bridge from the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, walk across the bridge and have a look at Big Ben and some rather swell architecture.
The RV1 will do for the Globe as well, and I think the Cabinet War Rooms are near-ish to Westminster station.

Travelcards loaded on Oyster will be just the ticket for you and you can indeed buy them at Green Park but if the strike goes ahead I wonder if PAYG might be better

The South Bank from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge is a wonderful walk.

From the Tower of London to Greenwich, which goes underneath Tower Bridge. It takes about 30 minutes.
