Hoover Dam on the Cheap:
Yes, you can enjoy the Dam for free. Park in one of the free parking areas and walk across the dam. There are plenty of great photo opportunities and interesting information posted along the way. Look up as you walk and see another marvel of engineering, the construction of an immense bridge across the river just downstream from Hoover Dam.

Only 10 minutes east of our hotel -- Opens at 9AM -- Should only take 2 hours for visitor center and trail. After passing through the visitor centre there was a choice of two walks, a 20 minute amble along the rim trail or the 1 hour ‘Island’ trail that takes you down into the Canyon to see the cave dwellings but requires stamina to get back to the top of the canyon up 300 steps. VERY GOOD REVIEWS

It will take about 2 hours to see five prehistoric pueblos. If you have less time, allow at least 30 minutes to visit the largest - Wupatki Pueblo - located behind the Visitor Center. Wupatki Pueblo Trail, located at the Visitor Center, is a self-guided tour of the largest pueblo in the park. Don't miss the blowhole, a fascinating geologic feature. The trail is less than .5 mile (.8km) round trip. Directions from Here to Grand Canyon sent us back to Williams -- need to ask how bad a road 180 is! From pics i have seen two lane with beautiful scenery.

Best Rim Walk: Rim Trail between Yavapai and Mather points. Paved and smooth, it lets walkers enjoy the scenery without worrying too much about their footing. Yavapai provides perhaps the best panorama of the three points on this part of the south rim as it is the most northerly, and the closest to the Colorado River, allowing for unobstructed views up and down the gorge. VIEWING SUNSETS AND SUNRISES The views at Hopi are more expansive, but Mohave has several individual overlooks rather than just one, and tends to receive fewer visitors so is generally more peaceful.
After this are three more stops -- The Abyss, Monument Creek Vista and Pima Point. Pima Point, at the northernmost corner of a wide promontory, there is nothing to block a vista of over 40 miles along the Grand Canyon, from Bright Angel Canyon in the east all the way west to Powell Plateau and the Great Scenic Divide.

Further East of this is Moran Point with the best view of the CO Rapids The best views at the point are found a short distance down the Grandview Trail, since the official overlook is slightly obstructed by trees. Grandview is quite a high elevation point (7,400 feet) so receives more rainfall and hence the woodland is taller and denser, containing a mix of oak, ponderosa pine and pinyon pine.
Moran is one of the most visited points on the east rim drive, and offers far reaching views along a wide section of the Grand Canyon, approximately between river miles 87 and 72. The point is due south of Cape Royal on the North Rim - just 8 miles away in a straight line but 215 miles by road.
Pinal and nearby Papago are two of the unmarked, trailless points

A visit to Tusayan Museum provides a glimpse into Pueblo Indian life at Grand Canyon some 800 years ago. Admission is free. This was a thriving community as illustrated by its pottery, arrowheads and other household artifacts.
The Tusayan Museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is located 3 miles (5 km) west of Desert View.
Tusayan Museum Exhibits
Also shown here are representative handicrafts from today's local tribes, providing a glimpse into their rich cultures.
The museum features some of the original 2,000–4,000 year old split-twig figurines. Often they are made in the shape of deer or bighorn sheep, sometimes with horns or antlers
