Chiricahua National Monument is really awesome. It is where Geronimo hid out for awhile. Since we can't go to Kartchner Caverns, I thought hiking here might be a good alternative. Here is a link to the nat'l parks website. http://www.nps.gov/chir/
When you go to this place you are in the middle of incredible scenery. It's not like you just drive throug. There are hiking trails too. I think the first time I went there I was about 19 and I was awestruck...but I also think I was on a date...
Howdy Pardner! This is the real life location of the OK Corral and other fun stuff. Last time we were there I think they still had wooden sidewalks and lots of cool western memorabilia...and bars. Elaine got chaps and a vest...it's been awhile ;-)

The OK Corral has "The Main Event" gunfights at 2 and at 5. It seems the reviews all tout the 5 o'clock as being the better of the two. Guess the 2 o'clock is the warm up and then the actors take a couple hour break in the saloon for some liquid refreshment.

Made Reservations for two rooms for 4/11 for one night.
Just a suggestion...we've stayed here a few times before for soccer tournaments. The rooms are nice and large with two rooms. There is a fridge, coffee maker, pool and breakfast included. Suites are going for $125 (incl tax). Which is not too bad for high season in AZ.
My friend from the UofA, Tom Smith, owns this very cool restaurant/wine bar/liquor store. Can't miss out on this. A great spot for a grown-up birthday celebration or wedding anniversary. :-) The kids will love a pizza by the pool at the hotel or in front of cable TV

This is the mission I was talking about that has an Easter celebration that combines Yaqui Indian traditions with Christian Easter stuff. It is definately cool to see but I'm not sure the celebration would be the right thing for us (or at least Conor). Apparently, they require a bit of decorum and reverence (not to be confused with wardrobe because I'm sure jeans would be OK) because it is a religious ceremony.

This place is gorgeous. There is also a great hike to 7 falls which, if there is water in sabino stream, has...wait for it....7 waterfalls and swimming holes. The hike is pretty far so I doubt Conor could make it (and I'm questioning my ability too). But we'll have more than one car with us.

This is not your typical boring museum. It has all the desert creatures (tarantulas, rattle snakes, scorpions, lizards, coyotes, mountain lions, big horn sheep) in addition, I think they have a hummingbird enclosure which should be really cool at this time of year.
Just kinda throwing some ideas out there. As is, this trip would put us in the middle of nowhere for Easter. Maybe we could move it around so that we're in Tucson for Easter and just be able to relax. Perhaps start out on Fri and drive all the way to Tombstone, Kartchner and Chiricahuas then head nort to Tucson on Saturday for Desert Museum and Mission San Xavier del Bac and (of course) The Dish. Sunday morning brunch at the hotel (or nearby) and a drive to the top of Mt. Lemmon might work before we head back to Phx.
WOW. You're good. I am up for anything, but am very out of shape so I am limited on my hiking! It sounds neat however so it would depend on the mileage! Book whatever and we're good. I am happy doing whatever or just hang out by the pool or backyard. We have had a few weeks of being stuck in due to Colin's leg and weeks of the flu so we're just happy to be out. Please don't feel like we need to do everything down time is fine too. We are so looking forward to the trip and some warm days! We're packing for cold too, as I think the Grand Canyon may be chilly!
You're right, the canyon will be chilly particularly when the sun starts going down. I'll look at hotels in Sedona and see if I can give you any info on them. To tell you the truth, we've never stayed there. We did camp there once with Greg's boyscout troop. It is a beautiful place.
There are no tickets left for Kartchner Caverns but we can go hiking in the Chiricahas. I've put some links on the notes area under the listing so you can take a look at the hikes listed there. After the Chiricahuas we can head to Tombstone. It will be like a "Cowboys and Indians" tour. I also spoke to my friend and we have reservations for the four of us for 7:30 at the Dish on Saturday. I've reserved two adjoining rooms at the Windmill Suites in Tucson. The kids can have pizza or something at the hotel while we're fine dining :-).
