2 week trip to Greece and Turkey from India. The trip was self planned and not a conducted tour. All bookings done over internet. I have put the Turkey trip separately as Turkey 2009 to separately provide the photos.

Syntagma is the most convenient location for tourists to be, lots of places to see and walk and shop around. From Airport X95 bus will bring you to Syntagma for 3eu.

Late evening, we could walk around Ermou Street which is full of life and activity even late night with street performers. Many North African vendors sell on the streets imitation brand products.

Notes
About an hour walk on slopes and steps. Little tiring but worth the view and the significance of the place. Remember to carry water/juice/food as you/kids would be tired after the climb. It was pretty sunny and hot that day. One can spend about 1hr up there.

We had booked BlueStar Ferries to Mykonos which started from a pier on Piraeus a 20 min taxi drive from Syntagma in the morning. The ferry was huge and interiors almost like a nicely maintained aircraft (A380 maybe). Cabins were not required as the duration is less than half day. cafeteria was nice for some quick french fries and coffee.

It stopped at couple of islands before landing on time at Mykonos. Plenty of people at the port with placard and others asking if you need a hotel. We had hotel offer free transfer which was very convenient.

Mykonos carries a very unique architecture for all its buildings which makes it so different. Inspired by the restrained cubist lines of the Cyclades and bathed in the pure light of Greece the town carries a cool flavor. We could spend a few minutes at the famous windmills, but not much there. The shops are fun. nice decor. fresh white walls. colors on doors, windows and staircases. There are no roads but only alleys to walk around on nicely paved zig zagging paths.

We started the day with plan to visit Delos. Boats to Delos leave arond 10am with a 15eu half day trip. Historical importance of Delos is simply great, so it was worth a visit.

However, Mondays the museum is close so no trips to island were available.

So walked back and took a bus to Ornos beach.

Ornos was the ideal beach location you would imagine. Nice sandy, mildly sunny, not cold, shallow blue waters, perfectly clean, very less crowd, beach reclines with cushions and fantastic mountain views around.

We relaxed here for a long time, while the kid could comfortably plan in the water.

Subsequnenly we took a mini boat and went to Platis Gialos beach. This one was lot more crowded and beach front reclines are all owned by hotels along side. We didnt like this one much.

You can take a bus ride back to mykonos town.

Flying Cat 4 was the ferry which took about 3 hours. very comfortable. Just be sure that you have a hotel pickup. The new port is quite a distance from Fira town, about 30-40 minutes.

We took the half day tour to the volcano and hot springs. 19eu per person.

You have to go to the old port to take this boat. We walked up to the edge of Fira town or the Caldera. Plenty of nice shops all along, won't let you walk faster. It would be great if you are not in a hurry to take the boat, for a leisurely walk to cable car which can take you down to the water front.

Shops is Santorini are very nicely presented and a pleasure to look at. There are many streets to walk around in both Fira and Oia. We shopped some good paintings at Oia. Many restaurants that give exotic sea view are a specialty of these two towns, as both are located at a good elevation.

we were back in Athens and were looking for a day trip. Delphi was one option, but we were satisfied with seeing ancient stuff after being to Acropolis. A full day trip to Peloponnesos (pronounce pelo-ponni-sos) was a great choice, particularly Nafplio. Another option was Sunion to see the temple of Poseidon. But the day trips by Chat tours were returning pretty late and we were booked for a 6hr bus ride next morning at 8am. So we decided to take a day trip on our own to Loutraki.

We went to Kifisos bus station and took a bus to Loutraki. About an hour and half drive along the coast.

Loutraki was a wonderful experience of what Greece has to offer. The Pebble beach was just about 100 meters from the city center where the bus drops you. People are relaxing and having fun in the shallow waters.

Later a stroll down the main road with elegant shops and small town charm was nice.

The bus to Ioannina was from Kifisos bus station about 20 mins from Syntagma by taxi and the tickets were pre-booked. The bus started exactly at 8:00 not one minute late and was very comfortable for a 6 hour drive, with a 20 minute stop over midway.

All along there is water on one side and mountains on the other.

Well, Greece was just amazing and so different from other western countries one may have seen. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. More than all the monuments and landmarks, one can enjoy both the natural beauty of the places and some exotic architecture and decor Greek style. Greece has 3 distinct parts and each one offers unique experience -- Mainlands (all the ruins and surrounding of Athens), Islands (Mediterranean, cruise, shops, walks, beaches, volcano) and Mountains (scenic, stone bridges, cliff-top monasteries). All the 3 are worth covering.

Greece has 3 distinct parts and each one offers unique experience -- Mainlands (all the ruins and surrounding of Athens), Islands (Mediterranean, cruise, shops, walks, beaches, volcano) and Mountains (scenic, stone bridges, cliff-top monasteries). All the 3 are worth covering.
